Job Description Job Description Description: TITLE : Sheet Metal Apprentice EMPLOYMENT CATEGORY : Regular/Full Time LOCATION : Fort Lauderdale, FL REPORTS TO : Sheet Metal Shop Foreman PURPOSE: Work in conjunction with the Sheet Metal Shop Foreman and Mechanics to use sheet metal manufacturing and other equipment to manufacture items/equipment needed for our roofing projects. DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES : · Complete learning activities as assigned and progressively improve your sheet metal fabrication skills. · Read and interpret sketches, drawings, and schematics associated with assigned projects. · Use math skills to calculate dimensions/angles/measurements as needed. · Perform layout work to maximize yield from raw material. · Fabricate sheet metal from stock sheets by cutting down, drilling, or other methods. · Measure, bend, and form sheet metal to prepare parts for final assembly. · Assist the Sheet Metal Shop Foreman with maintaining an accurate material inventory. · Assist the Sheet Metal Shop Foreman with the production schedule and prioritization of work based on the individual project’s urgency/due date. · Utilize material handling equipment (gas powered forklift) in a safe and effective manner. · Maintain a clean and safe workplace at all times. · Follow Company processes, safety guidelines, and OSHA standards. · Complete production forms and required paperwork related to your job duties on time as required. · Use AboutTime to accurately record your time spent in shop and job specific tasks. · Other duties as assigned. KEY RESULTS : · Fabricate sheet metal with 0% defect rate in accordance with fabrication sheets provided. · Maintain a safe work environment and work safely at all times. · Minimize material waste and maintain an accurate material inventory. · Manufacture/produce products on schedule and on budget. · Provide exemplary customer service to all internal and external customers. SKILLS & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS : · Minimum 1 year of sheet metal fabrication preferred. · High School Diploma/GED preferred. · Demonstrate ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing. · Ability to effectively use computers and technology to program machines and complete tasks/duties as assigned. · Familiarity using autobrakes, shears, plasma cutters, and various sheet metal fabricating tools and equipment similar to items in our shop preferred. · Ability to read, interpret, and perform calculations based on fabrication/shop drawings to accurately produce material as assigned preferred. · Willingness and ability to meet or exceed production rates established by extensive experience and time/motion studies. · Willingness and ability to use a forklift and other material handling equipment in a safe manner. · Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
